For the second year running, the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Harbour Regeneration, Miriam Dalli, along with Austrian Minister Leonore Gewessler, was chosen to lead the EU negotiations on the document for climate adaptation during COP29.
This important role once again emphasises the ever-growing commitment of Malta to be at the forefront among all the global leaders in the climate sector.
During a meeting in Baku, Minister Miriam Dalli emphasised that adaptation, one of the main pillars of the Paris Agreement, should focus on how countries need to build resilience to face the growing impact of climate change.
The negotiations on climate adaptation will address how we can strengthen the global capacity to mitigate climate risks, protect vulnerable communities and ensure tangible progress towards targets of resilience.
“This is a crucial moment for international co-operation on climate change. Through these negotiations we are ensuring that the adaptation will remain a global priority with solutions which address the real challenges of life. Malta is ready to work with all the parties concerned to achieve practical and balanced results”, said Minister Miriam Dalli.
Malta will focus on reaching consensus on practical measures which give priority to the more vulnerable countries, while strengthening global targets for resilience. There will be particular emphasis to ensure adequate financing which will help countries, especially small islands, to adapt to the impact of climate change.
