Malta’s Climate Action Authority and Climate Council join global alliance of climate councils

CAA CEO Ing. Abigail Cutajar briefs international organisations on Malta’s upcoming climate conference

The International Climate Councils Network (ICCN) has welcomed the Climate Action Authority (CAA) and the National Climate Action Council within their ranks as official members of the global alliance of climate councils. This important milestone reflects Malta’s commitment towards international cooperation and advancing science-based climate policies.

The announcement was made during the Climate Change Conference in London.

Commenting about the ICCN membership, the CEO of the CAA, Ing. Abigail Cutajar said such a membership will reinforce Malta’s voice within an active network of international climate leaders.

“Joining the ICCN marks a significant step in Malta’s commitment to climate leadership. The Climate Action Authority and the National Climate Action Council were established to bridge the gap between science, policy, and action, ensuring that evidence-based strategies translate into factual progress. We look forward to contributing our experience, learning from global peers, and strengthening collective climate resilience,” Ing. Cutajar said.

The CAA also participated in the Mediterranean Green Week organised by the Union for the Mediterranean in Brussels. In anticipation of the climate conference happening in Malta in September, Environment Minister Dr Miriam Dalli shared a recorded video message with the attendees. Minister Dalli invited Mediterranean countries to actively participate in the conference on September 16th, which will discuss actions to address rising seas. The conference will bring together Ministers across the MED region, leading experts, and regional stakeholders to address the critical challenges of rising sea levels in the Mediterranean.

Ing. Cutajar added: “The climate conference will happen against a backdrop of initiatives that Malta is taking to safeguard its coastlines, biodiversity, and communities against climate impacts. Malta is adopting a proactive position, and the conference will provide an essential platform for shared knowledge and coordinated action.”
